The Children of The Night (part 5)

~+— II. The Morning Light —+~

That night I was so restless for unknown reason. My heart was beating fast and I couldn’t close my eyes. I rolled out in my bed trying to find the most comfortable position to sleep and yet my eyes still opened wide. I was facing a wall till suddenly I felt someone moved close to me and touched my hair. I woke up and realize that it was only a dream.

I went to my work as usual. I received a special letter today. The church finally asked me to escort a guest from Vatican. They expected a priest who will stay for a while to help their local services. Finally they were progressing. I had waited for this more than a month. They promised to deliver the goods within a month but seemed there was a delay. The name of the guest priest was Abel Nightroad. I wonder what he would look like. From his name, he would be a fearful person, rough, an Anglo Saxon, and a human off course.

It was half an hour earlier from the schedule. I sat on the bench waiting for Father Nightroad as my fingers playing on a ring on my chest. A ring that I always brought everywhere I go. My mind flew back to the time when I accidentally met this vampire. A week had nearly past since that time. An unpleasant (there were always be like that off course) encountered with an arrogant Methuselah who insulted me, harassed me and yet I still helped him. He got wounded by silver bullet and asked me to save him from death. In exchange of his life he gave me his family seal with “Ioan Vasilica” written on. My wish was not get involved with him again but deep inside I had a slight wish to see him again. I don’t know why. Maybe there was some goodness in him that touched me. My body shivered remembering that moment again.

A train whistle woke me up. The train from Vatican had entered the platform. I rose from my seat and holding up the paper with “Abel Nightroad” name written on. I was expecting someone rough until I saw a gentle silver haired priest with a round glassed waving at me. Behind that pair of glasses, a pair of blue eyes like a lake in the winter was looking at me softly. His image was very different from my imagination. He looked soft, gentle, a bit clumsy and very smiley.
“Hello, I believe you are Karin, right? Nice to meet you. I’m Abel Nightroad, sent directly from Vatican.” A pair of white teeth appeared widely in front of me.
“Hello Father Nightroad. Nice to meet you.” He smiled and touched my hand,
“Just call me Abel.”
“Father, I mean Abel, did you have a nice journey? I believe the view around here is very beautiful, more beautiful than the Vatican.”
“Umm, yes a bit.” He scratched his head awkwardly trying to explain further until I overheard a man next to him said to his friends,
“I can’t believe this silly thing could happen in this peaceful train. That stupid priest, how could he suddenly pull an emergency brake without any reason? Look at my shirt now; stained by coffee! How could I attend a business meeting with this shirt?” I looked at Abel, and he was blushing,
“Oh…ehehe…. It was an accident actually. I got a train sick on board. I was so dizzy when I mistakenly pulled an emergency brake for a handle.” Poor Abel, he had made the whole passenger mad at him. Then I heard something strange underneath his chest. Ouw, seemed his stomach was empty and started to growl. He was blushing again,
“Oh, I’m sorry, please excuse my stomach. I haven’t got eaten anything since yesterday. Karin, could you please buy me something before we go to the church? I only had four dinars with me.” He smiled sweetly to me,
“I know a nice place to eat around here. Let’s go there!”
We had breakfast in a small café near the station. Abel ate a lot of things; he even drank his tea with thirteen sugar cubes! I doubted that he hadn’t been eaten since yesterday because from the way he ate, seemed he hadn’t been eaten for a week! After he finished his breakfast, I drove him to straight to the central church.
Abel talked a lot on the way to the church. He was nice and gentle. He looked like a person who wouldn’t dare kill anything even a fly. I like him.

The sun had already set when I went home. I’m thinking of a nice hot shower on the way back home. A hot shower after a busy day felt so refreshing. I felt a lot better after that. As I go outside the bathroom I heard someone saying,
“Good evening beautiful lady.”
I turned around and see a familiar face. That Methuselah! I held my breath. He came closer and stood in front of me. He reached out his hand and held my face,
“It’s nice to see you are fine.” He grinned. I backed off slowly while my hand slid to the drawer looking for my gun. He showed a gun in his hand,
“Are you always looking for this?” He smiled sweetly,
“Don’t worry. I mean no harm to you. I haven’t introduced myself properly to you. My name is Ioan Vasilica from The Royal Guardian Family of The Methuselah of Vasilica. I’m sorry I had to leave without saying anything. I should have told this earlier but I had to rest for almost a week to heal my wounds. If you did not remove the silver bullet, I would be gone by now. My deep gratitude for that.” He bowed his head to me,
“I’m truly sorry for humiliating you that night. I should have ashamed of myself.” His voice trembled.
“What do you want now?” He came closer as I said that.
“Let me go! You promise not to kill me!”
I tried at least to kick him once but he pressed me tightly. He held my hands gently and caressed them,
“Sssh… Who said I would kill you? I will not harm you.” He suddenly kissed me. I gasped and tried to free myself. His lips were cold but some kind of warmth flowing from his lips.
“I never stop thinking about you since that night. I love you.” I was drowning in his embrace. He held me so tight as if wouldn’t let me go off of him again. I couldn’t resist him anymore at the end.
“I thought you were dead.” Tears slowly fell from my eyes. He smiled and wiped off the tears on my cheeks gently. He caressed my hair softly and looked at me.
“I will not die easily.” He kissed me again deeply..
“I’m all yours…”

I had never thought of loving a vampire in my life. I live in an ordinary life. My wish was simple, meet a regular guy and get married. But now with this situation, the possibility of getting an ordinary life in the future was zero. What kind of future will I have if I had a vampire boyfriend? My life would never be the same again.

Ioan always visited me after sunset. He had to come unnoticed and untouched by the sunbeam. He was very different from the first time we met. He was actually the gentlest and the kindest person I had ever met. Tonight, I was supposed to meet him but he unusually came late. He appeared differently, he was wearing a new of uniform I hadn’t seen before.
“What is this outfit?”
“This is the Elite Royal Guardian Squad uniform. I joined them few days ago. My clan is a guardian clan. In order to contribute my loyalty to the Royal Family I have to join their force after some delay.” I felt uneasy about this. This movement was like preparing some war.
“Do your people plan on some kind of war against us?”
“I don’t think so. As far as I know this is only a matter of security. If war would be occurred I wouldn’t be here then.” He smiled at me.
“Hmm. I’m not sure about this.”
